COMMUNITY FOREST ASSOCIATIONS MARK 20 YEARS OF COMMUNITY FOREST CONSERVATION IN MERU COUNTY

Community Forest Associations (CFAs), on 14th August 2026, marked 20 years of community forest conservation efforts during their Annual Prayer and Thanksgiving Ceremony in Meru County.

Forestry Principal Secretary Mr. Gitonga Mugambi, his Diaspora Affairs counterpart Ms. Roseline Kathure Njogu and Meru County Governor H.E. Rev. Isaac Mutuma joined members of the CFAs to commemorate the milestone.

PS Mugambi, accompanied by Chief Conservator of Forests Mr. Alex Lemarkoko, commended the CFAs for their continued collaboration with the National Government in advancing forest conservation and restoration. He noted that the Government recognizes CFAs as important partners in translating forestry programmes into tangible results at the community level.

Governor Mutuma appreciated the CFAs’ efforts in protecting and restoring Meru’s forests and reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to working with the National Government and CFAs in implementing the Presidential #15BillionTreesBy2032 Programme.

PS Njogu also commended the CFAs for their contribution to forest conservation and called for the incorporation of fruit trees such as avocado in restoration and tree-growing initiatives to promote environmental conservation, value addition, income generation and improved community livelihoods.

The ceremony brought together CFAs, Government officials, community leaders and other stakeholders to celebrate two decades of community-led forest conservation and renew their commitment to sustainable forest management.
